Frequently Asked Questions

1. How old should my child be to start piano lessons?

Most children are ready to begin around ages 5 to 6, but every child is different. Some younger children may be ready earlier if they show good focus, fine motor skills, and interest in music. If you're unsure, I’m happy to offer a trial lesson to assess readiness in a gentle, supportive way.

2. What should students bring to lessons?

Students should bring:

  • All assigned music and theory books

  • A focused, ready-to-learn attitude!

3. How often should students practice at home?

Consistency is key! I recommend daily practice, ideally right after the lesson. Beginners can start with 20 minutes, while more experienced students should aim for 30–60 minutes. As a guideline, practice time should match the lesson length. Quality over quantity—consistent, focused practice builds skill and confidence.

4. Do you offer makeup lessons?

Yes, makeup lessons are offered based on teacher availability. Students are allowed to reschedule up to 4 times per semester. For more details on makeup lessons, please refer to the piano studio policy.

5. Are back-to-back piano lessons effective?

Yes! Back-to-back lessons can be beneficial for both beginners and advanced students:

  • Beginners are still learning how to practice. Additional guided time helps reinforce memory and build correct habits.

  • Advanced students can use the extended session for deeper musical work—like interpretation, technique, or performance polishing.
While back-to-back lessons require extra energy, but I’m happy to do it when it supports the student’s growth. My goal is to ensure every student maximizes their lesson time, whether they are beginners or advanced.

➡️ Please note: makeup lessons are scheduled based on teacher availability.

6. How can I support my child’s progress at home?

You can support your child by:

  • Creating a regular practice routine

  • Providing a quiet space for focused practice

  • Showing interest in what they’re learning

  • Encouraging them and celebrating their effort
